Checking in
Arriving to Campus and Checking In
We know this is an exciting time for you and your family, and our staff will do everything we can to help you get moved into your new home efficiently.
Upon arriving to campus at your selected arrival time, proceed directly to the Student Recreation Center Gymnasium located at 101 Piedmont Ave SE. This is University Housing’s central arrival location where you will retrieve your room key and access card. You will be asked to show your arrival email confirmation along with your Panther ID card. You must complete the online 2022-2023 Resident Information Record and Fire Safety Module before you arrive.
Parking for the Student Recreation Center
K deck, N deck and M deck will be available for residents to park while they check in at the Student Recreation Center and retrieve their keys. Residents may park at no cost for up to one hour while they check in.
K and N parking decks are located right next to each other directly behind the Student Recreation Center with entry access on Gilmer St, between Piedmont Ave and Jesse Hill Jr Dr. K and N decks have the most spaces, however there are no ADA spaces in these parking decks.
M deck is the other parking option for the Student Recreation Center. This parking deck does have ADA spaces and an elevator but have less spaces overall. The entrance to M deck is on Auditorium Place SE, between Courtland St NE and Piedmont Ave.
Housing staff will be in the area to guide you. Links to maps of the area will be provided in your arrival confirmation email the evening before your move in day.
*University Lofts residents should proceed directly to the University Lofts parking deck instead of K, N, or M deck to park before heading to the Student Recreation Center to check in.
Please be aware that traffic downtown will be congested. In efforts to make a safe and smooth process for everyone, University Housing asks that you limit the number of people you bring with you on move-in day. Only one car per resident will be able to park in the decks at the Student Recreation Center. If you have more than one car in your party, we ask that the cars not containing the resident find an off campus city lot nearby to wait while the resident checks in at the Student Recreation Center.
Arriving at your Hall
After you have retrieved your keys at the Student Recreation Center, you may proceed to your respective residence hall. You will notice there will be many students in unloading zones preparing to move in. University Housing staff will guide you to the proper unloading location areas for your building.
We know that this is an exciting time for you and your family. As a staff, we will do everything we can to help you move into your new home efficiently. The unloading process varies by location – this information will be provided upon arrival. University Housing will have a limited number of large bins available to assist with your move. We encourage you to bring your own equipment needed to facilitate your move-in process.
For unloading, please report to the following locations after checking in at the Student Recreation Center:
- University Commons:Commons Parking Deck (entrance on John Wesley Dobbs Ave)
- Piedmont North:Piedmont North Parking Deck (entrance on Piedmont Ave NE)
- University Lofts: Lofts Parking Deck (entrance on Piedmont Ave NE)
- Patton Hall& Greek Housing: Entrance on Piedmont Ave NE behind Patton Hall
- Piedmont Central:W Lot entrance on John Wesley Dobbs Ave
We request bringing a maximum of only two (2) family and friends to participate in your move in process. Consider bringing family and friends another day after you move in. Between August 17 and 20, any guests of the resident will need to be checked at their community front desk between the hours of 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. Starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, all guests will need to be checked in moving forward. A government-issued photo ID is required by both the resident and their guests.
Immediately after arriving and unloading, all family/guest cars as well as resident cars who have not paid for semester parking are required to move their vehicle to a local city parking lot.
What Should You Bring?
Packing for your campus apartment or room can be a lot of fun, but be mindful not to pack too much. There is limited space in the residence halls and there is no extra storage available. To conserve space, it is a good idea to consider sharing larger items with your roommates. You should contact them before coming to campus, so that you can agree upon the items that each of you will be responsible for bringing. We encourage you to visit the Housing website for a detailed list of items to bring, items to share and prohibited items.
Please continue to check your student email for future communications including arrival time confirmation and building specific move-in information. If you have any questions please email [email protected] with the subject line “Fall 2022 Move-In”.

What to Pack
Packing for your campus apartment or room can be a lot of fun, but be mindful not to pack too much. Space is limited in residence halls, and no extra storage is available outside of your assigned space. To conserve space, it is a good idea to consider sharing larger items with your roommate(s). You should contact your roommate(s) prior to move-in so you can agree upon the items that each of you will be responsible for bringing.
Each resident is designated a bed, a dresser, a desk and chair, and a wardrobe or a closet based on room layout. All furnishings must stay in the room all year. Residents may not remove or store any item for any reason. Each dining area in University Commons or University Lofts is furnished with a table and chairs.
Don't forget to bring these important Covid-care items: masks, gloves, sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and disinfecting cleaner.
*Note: Personal appliances that are used for cooking may only be used in the kitchen. No open-flame device is allowed in the residence halls. Appliances that generate high temperatures, such as George Foreman grills and deep-fat fryers, should be used near the stove top with the exhaust hoods on.
Personal Items
When packing for a campus apartment or room, remember not to bring too much. Space is limited.
*Note: Individual health and air quality requirements vary greatly between students. Students should plan to bring small, portable units (dehumidifiers, humidifiers, air purifiers, fans, etc.) for personal comfort.
Items to Consider Sharing
Rather than doubling up, consider sharing larger items with your roommate(s).
See full refrigerator and microwave policy
*Note: Each kitchen in University Commons is equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, microwave and stove. University Lofts provides the same appliances, except for a microwave.
