Senior Staff Bios

University Housing senior staff is comprised of dedicated professional, support and student staff members who are responsible for providing residential living programs and coordinating all services for resident students.

Randy Brown Director of University Housing

Randy_BrownRandy was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received a bachelor’s degree in business management. His undergraduate involvement in student government at the University of Arkansas inspired him to get a master of education from the University of Vermont. His higher education and student affairs degree prepared him for his first job as a hall director at Florida State University. He now calls Georgia State University home.

Shannon Corey, Ed.D Associate Director, Residence Life

Shannon CoreyShannon’s focus areas in student affairs include residential curriculum, assessment and professional development and adults in the workplace.  Shannon received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from Old Dominion University and Doctor of Education in Learning, Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Georgia.  She has over 17 years of professional experience in student affairs and residence life in particular and is also certified in bystander intervention training and behavior-based interviewing. She also remains active in various professional organizations including National Association of Student Personnel Administration (NASPA) and Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I). On a personal note, Shannon loves dogs and especially her rescue, Cagney.

Sharon German Westfield Assistant Director for Business Services and Financial Operations

Sharon GermanSharon German Westfield has 20 years of budget and financial experience at Georgia State University. Sharon received a bachelor of arts from Spelman College, a bachelor of business administration from Georgia State University and a masters of business administration from Southern Polytechnic University.

Marc Ebelhar Assistant Director for Residence Life, University Commons

Marc_EbelharMarc has over 10 years of experience serving as a student affairs professional with a primary focus in housing and residence life. He earned a B.A. in economics and political science from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky and a M.Ed. in higher education and student affairs at the University of South Carolina. He has worked professionally at Elmhurst College, Florida International University and Bowling Green State University. Marc serves on the NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) Region III Advisory Board and is national Co-Chair of the NASPA Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Knowledge Community.

Falon Thacker Assistant Director, Residential Student Success and Retention

20160913ss_falon_thacker_009psfcFrom 2012-2017, Falon served in the Residence Hall Director (RHD) position here at GSU. During this time, she served as an RHD in Piedmont North, Patton Hall and Piedmont Central. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky and her M.Ed. in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Florida. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Counseling and Student Personnel Services at the University of Georgia. Her professional association involvement includes serving on the Governing Council for the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers as the chair of the Research and Information Committee. Her areas of focus in student affairs include first year experience, residential curriculum, assessment, multicultural and social justice education and mental health.

Ashley Brown Assistant Director, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

20160913ss_falon_thacker_009psfcAshley Brown served as a Residence Hall Director in the University Lofts at Georgia State University from 2015-2017. She earned a Masters of Art in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelors of Public Administration from Texas State University. Ashley’s focus areas in student affairs include intercultural competence, social justice, civic engagement, and leadership. Ashley is a Qualified Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory through IDI, LLC. She is also an active member in National Association of Student Personnel Administration (NASPA) and the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I). While Ashley now calls Georgia home, she is a proud Texan and enjoys rooting for the Dallas Cowboys!
